Inter-America: Ministers to receive evangelism training online

Ministers from across the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Inter-American Division (IAD) will have the opportunity to receive evangelism training online during a special virtual pastoral council scheduled for Apr. 16, 2013.

The six-hour comprehensive evangelism training session is intended to equip the 3,000 pastors in the IAD to further train a vast lay member force, according to Pastor Balvin Braham, associate ministerial director for the church in Inter-America and one of the organizers of the event.

“We want to empower our pastors and provide them with knowledge about programs and initiatives as they involve members so they can be living in readiness of the coming of Christ and that they can be able to witness to their faith more,” said Braham.

The online training is part of the church’s Vision One Million initiative set in motion in 2011 to empower members in becoming true followers and witnesses of Jesus and is one in a series of special activities taking place during Inter-America’s Year of the Laity this year.

Top administrators and department and ministries leaders will dialogue on activities, resources and provide tools for ministers and active church members to use effectively.

“We are seeking for more of a direct connection with our local leaders and active membership and this is a means that will get the word out faster,” explained Braham.

Each of the unions or church regional offices is gathering their pastors to view the online program, participate in group session discussions and submit questions via the chat line.

Inter-America’s Virtual Pastoral Evangelism Council will being on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. Miami Time and will continue until 5:00 p.m. The program is geared for ministers but anyone can connect to view the program, organizers said.
