Top financial administrators and accounting managers from six major Seventh-day Adventist regions in Inter-America met for a two-week training session on SunPlus, a financial management and accounting software package. The software features strong analytical tools to manage the funds that come into the church.

The intense training took place at the Inter-American Division (IAD) headquarter office in Miami, Florida, April 13-23, 2009.

“This was our first thorough SunPlus training that will improve the efficiency of our financial operations between the unions and Division and the General Conference,” said Tony De La Mota, associate treasurer for the church in Inter-America, and IAD's SunPlus training leader.

According to De La Mota, although eight sites have already been using the older version of SunPlus, the training was a much needed in order to take the regional organizations to the next level.

During the session, which included training from the Adventist World Church's SunPlus team, financial administrators and accounting managers reviewed and implemented the new accounting manual, said De La Mota.

“This SunPlus program was designed as a tool to use with the new accounting manual to manage tithe funds,” De La Mota said. “This will highly supply the need for our growing church funds and will be an open platform to adjust to the demanding and changing finances of the world today.”

Inter-America is the second church division to implement SunPlus version 2, according to De La Mota, who manages a division team of three others on the project. “We are very excited to continue to implement it to the rest of our territory.”

Following the training at the headquarter office, there will be additional on-site follow-ups at the respective church regions during the next couple of weeks. In turn, the trained financial administrators will be equipped to partner with other church unions, or regions, which will receive intense training in the coming months.

The next SunPlus training is schedule to take place later this year. For more information on SunPlus training, contact Inter-America's Treasury Office at 305.403.4700.
