Managua, Nicaragua…[Libna Stevens/IAD]
In a country which has experienced slow economic growth in the wake of a civil war which ended 15 years ago, the people of Nicaragua are hearing messages of hope and responding in large numbers. A national evangelism effort led by the Seventh-day Adventist church in Managua climaxed with the baptism of 1,218 souls at the Lake Xiloa. The baptism took place on April 1st.
“Thanks to the special evangelism efforts of local pastors and lay people from throughout Nicaragua, and crusades led by students of the 'Share Him' evangelism initiative, the event was made possible,” says Pastor Marlon C. Moodie, communication director for the church in the South Central American Union territory.

More than 81 pastors and ordained lay people prayed with and baptized the new members.
Pastor Israel Leito, president of the church in Inter-America, was a featured speaker at a worship service during the effort. In attendance were approximately 5,000 local church leaders and members, in addition to ordained pastors and lay people. Also in attendance were court officials who offered marriage certificates to couples who accepted the truth before baptism.
Bordering Honduras and Costa Rica in Central America, Nicaragua has more than 74,000 Seventh-day Adventists worshiping in 183 churches.
